TE PAE HAS BEEN SELECTED AS THE OFFICIAL NAME FOR THE CHRISTCHURCH CONVENTION CENTRE OPENING IN 2020.

“THE NAME IS A UNIQUE YET SIMPLE WAY FOR DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL VISITORS TO IDENTIFY THIS PREMIUM, PURPOSE-BUILT CONVENTION AND EXHIBITION VENUE.”

“We have worked with local cultural advisers, Matapopore on a name that reflects not only what this facility is, but also what makes it different from any other.”

“The exterior design of Te Pae has been derived from the Ngāi Tahu creation story of the Southern Alps in New Zealand’s South Island. The 429,000 individual panels that make up the façade will resemble the colours and curves of Canterbury’s iconic braided rivers that flow down from the mountains.”

These features have been carried through to the branding to reinforce the importance of the surrounding area to the quality of visitor experience.

In a globally competitive sector, a range of factors will set Te Pae apart when it opens in 2020.

“As a central city landmark supported by great hospitality or manaakitanga, Te Pae will be enjoyable and memorable. Accommodation, shops, bars, restaurants and parks are all a few steps away and drive less than two hours in any direction from Christchurch and you will find a scenic part of the South Island,” said Beal.

“Prior to 2011, Christchurch was New Zealand’s business events capital, hosting 24 per cent of all conferences on a per-delegate-day basis. We are seeing that demand returning with international organisers telling us they are excited by an attractive, safe, compact city and the opportunity to experience New Zealand’s bucket list destinations.”

Several prestigious events have been confirmed for 2021, including the five-day Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB) conference, the first time New Zealand has hosted this triennial event for 900 leading biochemists.

The same year the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) International Biology Symposium will bring 350 of the world’s top Antarctic scientists to Christchurch.

Te Pae will be capable of hosting up to 2000 delegates for a variety of national and international events.

It will include a 1400-delegate auditorium, a 200-booth exhibition hall, banquet hall and 24 meeting rooms overlooking the picturesque Victoria Square and Ōtākaro/Avon River.

About The Project

Iqaluit International Airport Improvement

Iqaluit, Nunavut

Ensuring the Success of Critical Infrastructure in Remote Regions

Nunavut is a unique, northern Canadian territory composed of a series of islands and communities. Airports are the only all-season transportation links to this region, making this project a necessary component to life in Nunavut.

Located in the capital city of Nunavut, the new Iqaluit International Airport will replace the original 1940 Frobisher Bay Air Force airport, and will continue to play a strategic technical support role for both military and civilian aviation.

Arctic Infrastructure Partners, formed by Bouygues Building Canada, InfraRed Capital Partners Limited, Sintra and Winnipeg Airports Authority, have developed an innovative, flexible and functional design for the new Airport, that integrates spaces for revenue generation including retail, and food and beverage outlets.

The project will include the construction of a new airport building, expanded aprons for planes to park, new lighting systems, an upgraded runway, and a new combined-services building that will house the fire-fighting vehicles/support equipment, and heavy runway and apron maintenance equipment. The construction of this project is anticipated to begin in 2014 with completion scheduled for 2017.

Description:
Spectator Precinct = 50,900m2
Greater Royal Randwick site = 80ha
1,000 seat ballroom

The high-profile $115 million redevelopment of the Royal Randwick Racecourse spectator precinct will see Brookfield Multiplex, on behalf of the Australian Turf Club, turn the popular Sydney landmark into a world-class racing facility.

Over 40,000 square metres of space will be demolished including the Randwick Pavilion and Teahouse as well as the existing Paddock Stand, and a new stand with increased capacity will be constructed in its place. The Queen Elizabeth II stand is also set to be refurbished and will create a vibrant new facility.

In order to boost Royal Randwick Racecourse’s capacity as an international racing venue, Brookfield Multiplex has specially designed an amphitheatre-style parade ring “Theatre of the Horse”. The complex will include a two storey owners and trainers facility with direct views to the ring.

A new 1,000 seat ballroom will also be constructed with several
purposes including corporate suites on race day and for large events during non-racing season.

The historic Swab building will be restored and adapted for use as a conference facility with a museum, cafe, equine gallery and registration office for members.

Brookfield Multiplex’s outstanding credentials within the sporting and tourism sectors makes it well placed to re-create an iconic Australian venue.

Completion is anticipated for mid-2013.

Bendigo Hospital Project Construction update – February 2015
Posted on January 28, 2015 by Melissa Hughes The New Year has started strongly for the Bendigo Hospital Project construction team. The final stage of the structure, the steel frames on the roof, is well underway with around 60 per cent of the steel on the roof of the west building installed. The steel framing for the whole building should be complete by mid April.

More broadly, the change in the workforce, from structure workers to the finishing trades reflects the construction program this year. Throughout January around 60 new workers were inducted each week and by the end of the month around 300 were active on site.

Across the first three levels of the hospital a range of work is underway.

Prefabricated mechanical service modules are being installed. This innovation allows the complex services to be more safely assembled off site and then fitted to the building. Along with the mass of cables, medical gas pipes and electrical services these form the skeletal system of the hospital from an operational perspective.

Right across the building service and wall locations are being methodically and precisely laid out. Following the set out work other trades install the walls, doors and services.

On level one the plasterboard is being fitted and the fire proofing walls are also being installed. Lifts 1 and 2 are now installed and with a small amount of commissioning work could be operable.  Installation works on Lifts 14 & 15 has commenced and works are due to commence in Lifts 3 & 4 by the end of January.

The volume of materials used in the construction of the project is considerable. For example, before the fit out work is undertaken the scaffolding and formwork must be stripped from each floor. This is resulting in around 5 semi-trailers of material being removed from the site every day. Within the foyer of the new building, otherwise known as the street, stairwells are being installed.

It is also significant to note that on the exterior of the building, on the south side of the east building, the first windows have been fitted. This specially constructed glazing was installed as a trial before a more substantive process starting in a few weeks.

Over the next months the cranes will be decommissioned as the main structural work is complete. The first to be removed will be Cranium at the end of January.

The China Story is a project of the Australian Centre on China in the World, a research institution established in 2010 to enhance existing research and teaching related to China at The Australian National University (ANU). The Centre aims to be an integrated, world-leading institution for Chinese Studies and the understanding of China, or what has been called ‘Greater China’ or the ‘Chinese Commonwealth’ (the People’s Republic of China, the Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions, as well as Taiwan and the Chinese diaspora), on a global scale. Academics at the Centre encourage an approach to China underpinned by what the founding director, Geremie R. Barmé, calls New Sinology .

The Federal Government announced in May 2010 the formation of the Australian National Institute for Public Policy (ANIPP). The ANIPP represents a place where public servants and others working on policy for the nation can engage with leading researchers and educators from a wide range of disciplines.

The ANIPP enables ANU to play a lead role in boosting Australia’s expertise through enhanced teaching and research into public policy. Included in ANIPP is the new Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW).

The CIW will be central in building Australia’s knowledge of China and it will occupy an important position as an internationally recognised scholarly hub.

The CIW will build upon the ANU’s existing capabilities to create an integrated, world-leading institution for Chinese Studies and the understanding of China on a global scale.

It includes expertise in Chinese thought, culture, history, politics, society, environment, economics and foreign and strategic policy. CIW will undertake research, education and outreach activities in innovative ways not achieved by similar institutions internationally.

The new ‘signature building’ to house CIW will create an environment that is exciting and dynamic for its occupants and visitors and acknowledges the aesthetics of Chinese architectural influence. The building includes academic spaces, flexible lecture spaces with simultaneous translation facilities, a gallery space, a research library, a 220 seat auditorium with foyer that can be utilised for catered events, bicycle storage and additional landscaping to improve the buildings landscape setting. The centre is being designed in partnership by Canberra firm Munns Sly Moore Architects and Beijing based architects Mo Atelier Szeto.
